Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) announced his retirement today. He will be replaced as chairman of the House Science Committee by Ralph Hall of Texas. God help us.

Boehlert is not retiring immediately, but will not seek re-election; he will be retiring as a Congressman as of the date that the next Congress convenes (January 2007).
Who the Chairman of the House Science Committee will be, of course, depends upon the composition of the 110th Congress. N.b., this is a clarification and does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation of any candidate or party. |

Issues Affecting the Future of the U.S. Space Science and Engineering Workforce: Interim Report
Committee on Meeting the Workforce Needs for the National Vision for Space Exploration, National Research Council 58 pages (approximate), 8 1/2 x 11, 2006 http://www.nap.edu/catalog/11642.html -------------------- "After having some business dealings with men, I am occasionally chagrined,
and feel as if I had done some wrong, and it is hard to forget the ugly circumstance. I see that such intercourse long continued would make one thoroughly prosaic, hard, and coarse. But the longest intercourse with Nature, though in her rudest moods, does not thus harden and make coarse. A hard, sensible man whom we liken to a rock is indeed much harder than a rock. From hard, coarse, insensible men with whom I have no sympathy, I go to commune with the rocks, whose hearts are comparatively soft." - Henry David Thoreau, November 15, 1853 |
