Spirit has continued moving towards West/NorthWest, probably looking for a safe and efficient route down the basin.

This site seeing is great but lets just get there The Inner Basin looks fasinating to me, I hope we don't rush to Home Plate too quickly! Remember the way the layers of Husband hill are angled means that on this side were much lower in the stratigraphy than we have been before, this is important site seeing! Home Plate looks really close:
Any chance someone could pinpoint that pile of rocks on 594-597 panoramas? I tried, but it's too small... |

QUOTE (MaxSt @ Nov 22 2005, 10:10 PM) I dunno -- there is only a tiny little sliver of Home Plate visible in that image, in the far upper right corner. It doesn't look all that much closer to me... we're a lot closer to its elevation, though. I'm not sure we're getting to Home Plate all *that* soon, though -- there are a *lot* of outcrops throughout this basin area. We also haven't seen all of the Inner Basin yet, I don't think -- at least, not in great detail. I'm still wondering if, just possibly, the dark sands might not be eroding from an unusually dark set of layers that might be exposed in some of these outcrops... -the other Doug -------------------- “The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right.” -Mark Twain

I think the rover will traverse any terrace, there are 2 more below, until approaching to Utreya before going to Home Plate. If you have visited the last post in Spirit Route Map where Tesheiner has posted last Spirit traverse and you will realice an approximate distance from now to Home Plate. Spirit's recent traverse map.
Just calculating with a good eye, the distance from now to HP would be around 150-180 meters. Someone have imaging tools that measure the distance with high precision (pixels/meters). My bet is that Spirit would be sniffing HP by January.... Rodolfo |

The waypoint is in the line-of-sight for homeplate, like the pile of rocks. Last time I calculated the distance to that feature it was at some 80m (sol 666?); is the waypoint at the same (or similar) distance? JPL's route map has it about 100 meters from Spirit's position on sol 667. I expect they will be adjusting their route map again like they did after arriving at Larry's Lookout.
