Unmanned Spaceflight.com _ Tech, General and Imagery _ Mars From Your Place on Earth

Posted by: Astro0 Feb 16 2008, 11:41 AM

Looking out of my kitchen window I spotted the Moon and Mars in close proximity.
Just for fun I grabbed the camera and took a snap.
Probably lots of 'noise' in the image, but here's the result with some captures from a nightsky program inset as reference.

Got me thinking of a fun community project - UMSF'ers sending in shots of Mars taken from their place on Earth.
Doesn't matter whether you're using a little digi-camera like mine or have a CCD hooked up to a telescope. Any takers?

I have been watching Mars on a weekly basis the past few months as the planet is receding from Earth and won't be visisble during most part of 2009... After all, only got 1 or 2 observation sessions during which I could used eyepieces up to 200X and actually see details on the small planet. Your photo isn't bad, rather good for just a fast snapshot wink.gif

1 second shutter time, with 80 ISO on a Canon Digital Ixus 60.
Image was just cropped.
