The European SOHO-spacecraft (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) has discovered over 1350 comets but using the LASCO coronagraph it has officially found a periodic comet: P/2007 R5 (SOHO).

Comet makes death plunge toward Sun.

On March 12th, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) watched as a comet plunged into the sun and disappeared.
