Congratulations to Emily on being recognised by having this asteroid named for her.
A star on Earth and in the heavens
Wow! Congratulations indeed, Emily! That is very cool.

Well, how about that!!! Congratulations, Emily; what a well-deserved and apropos honor!
Woah! Congrats and say hi to 18610 Arthurdent for me. Don't forget your towel while you're out there!
WOW indeed!. A well earned honour. To be remembered forever.... as my dad would say, "It would bring tears to a glass eye"
Congratulations! Awesome!
Yes, congratulations! Currently her asteroid is in southern Pisces about three degrees due south of Epsilon Piscium. I'll give a salute in that direction tomorrow morning.
I knew it had been proposed by Rainer Kresken and Matthias Busch (they needed to know my birth year for the citation, and the Wikipedia page wasn't up yet) but had no idea when or if it'd be accepted. It's indeed quite an honor! Thanks, everybody. I'm pleased it's a main-belt asteroid and therefore no threat to anybody, at least for the foreseeable future
Well done, Emily!
Phil
Congratulations, that's soooooo cool!
A little info on the asteroid http://comets-asteroids.findthedata.org/l/526504/274860-2009-RE26
OK people, so now we need mission proposals.
Mission science, spacecraft specs, propulsion, power systems (solar, mmrtg?), science instruments, cameras, sample return system! Work out the trajectory. Crowd source funds for a piggyback on a launch vehicle. Build a mission control infrastructure, a deep space comms system, deal with planetary protection protocols, sample re-entry vehicle etc....
Easy
Exploration Mission to Investigate LocallY Large Asteroids, by seeKing, Determining, Assessing and knoWing ALL Anomolies
(yep, the name is a bit of a stretch, but you do better)
Wouldn't be easier to meet the real one?
274860 Congratulations Emily! BTW, we know now your full birthdate
Seems like we should all chip in for some upgrades.
No ordinary 'rock' for our Emily, this one needs a major ring system and a retinue of satellites!!
Congratulations, Emily!
Thats amazing !
Congratulations Emily !
Robert
That's great news! Congratulations Emily!
Horizons has been updated
I wonder if it could become an 'Easter egg' in Eyes on the Solar System
Wow, congratulations! This is highly deserved.
Wow, what a great news! Congratulations, Emily!
Very well deserved indeed.
Congratulations Emily! Wow!
This is cool, congratulations!
Congratulations, Emily! And thanks for the detailed background blog post http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2014/07160448-asteroid-274860-emilylakdawalla.html.
Well deserved! Congratulations Emily!
Would Emily's wishes regarding crater, mountain, and escarpment naming be observed if/when her asteroid is reconnoitered ??
Maybe honoring some retired Planetary Society staffers or significant and fondly remembered teachers in Emily's schooling? Might be a nice and heartfelt opportunity.
It's a nice thought, but I'm not sure I'll live to see a future in which random km-sized asteroids in the main belt get visited by camera-equipped spacecraft. NEOs, maybe, but it's real hard for me to imagine it happening in the main belt. (And yes, that is a challenge )
Congrats! A real (well-deserved) honour!
From Twitter: Asteroid (274860) Emilylakdawalla makes its closest approach to the Earth (2.085 AU) on the 5th October. http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?orb=1;sstr=274860.
Guess we should all wave to it today.
My belated CONGRATS!!!
We always knew you rocked, but now we can point to it!
