I’m Jake Matijevic and it’s September 14th and the year 2005. I’ll be giving the Flight Director’s Report for the MER vehicle.
On Spirit this is sol 604 in the late afternoon and on sol 603 the rover drove to another position at the summit of Husband Hill. Spirit arrived at Husband Hill on sol 581 and since then has been positioning itself to take a series of panoramic images, both south and east of this position, which looks into a basin and a hill area on the other side of the Columbia Hills. This is our first view of this area and our science team has been eagerly waiting to see these areas for a new set of targets to be planned in the coming weeks for investigation by the Spirit vehicle. There’ll be plans to drive into this basin, perhaps even drive to another hill of the other side of Husband Hill in the Columbia Hills in the next couple of months. On the other side of the planet Opportunity has driven again along the so-called Erebus Highway. This is an area that is distinguished by a series of exposed bedrock, which appears to look like paving stones and leads almost directly to the edge of Erebus Crater. Opportunity will be continuing along this path for the next several sols and, hopefully by next week, will arrive at Erebus Crater. Both vehicles are healthy and both vehicles are experiencing the conditions of the summer season in the southern hemisphere on Mars. And that’s what’s been going on on Mars today. |

I couldn't open it either initially. By accident I found a way:
Download the quicktime-file. Doubleclick the file. The warning 'script.txt.mov could not be found' appears. Click on the 'Find' button. Click on the 'Cancel' button. Voila. I think they forgot to include the textfile in Quicktime movie. |
