It looks like GOSAT launched successfully today!
http://www.gosat.nies.go.jp/index_e.html Does anyone know if there will be any data releases to the public? [This could get politically ugly if they did, but the science value would be just awesome...] Could these sensors also be used for detecting "organic" (CO2 being considered an "organic") budgets and sources on other planets as well? And this research proposal for Ibuki data caught my eye: "Kohei Mizutani National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (Japan) Validation study of GOSAT CO2 data with coherent differential absorption lidars" (proposal lists here) -------------------- Some higher resolution images available at my photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31678681@N07/

[This could get politically ugly if they did, but the science value would be just awesome...] According to the jaxa site: QUOTE When the IBUKI's operations start, updated data will be acquired every three days from many observation points on earth. This data will be distributed free to scientists. And http://www.gosat.nies.go.jp/eng/gosat/page5.htm QUOTE ... the provision of GOSAT products to the general public is scheduled for after the validation phase following the launch of the satellite. In addition, the GOSAT DHF will compile observation requests from users and forward them to JAXA. edit: In about a month, IBUKI will (hopefully) be complimented by NASAs OCO http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/oco/main/index.html |
