What is the exact peanut deployment sequence? I have my jar of peanuts, unopened. Am I supposed to wait until EDL, until we hear it succeed?

OK, good. I almost endng up spending the next little bit of this time on the phone to Comcast. Just after NASA TV here started the no-commentary coverage at 5pm my time, the screen went blank. All other channels were working, just not NASA TV.
I was actually working my way through the Comcast phone menu when it came back up just a couple of minutes ago. -the other Doug -------------------- “The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right.” -Mark Twain

My dog just landed in the couch...I'll face that as a good sign... Last night I was just about to go to bed and there, believe it or not, was a little mouse swimming in the toilet. Improbable as it sounds our Cat must have brought it in just a few moments before and for some reason have dropped it in the toilet. I rescued it and set it free outside. So an event that’s very improbable occurred and the little guy survived both my cat and a potential drowning to live another day. That’s my good omen. |

Whichever NASA TV gets ported into my cable system had been running to no-commentary views of the control room, and now have a "coming up" slide for the beginning of commentary at 5:30.
Video has popped in and out for me a couple of times over the past half hour, I figure at this point that this is just NASA getting their feeds straight. -the other Doug -------------------- “The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right.” -Mark Twain

NASA-TV is just showing a really cool computer simulation based on where it should be at each point. It looks live and not part of the HUD movie. Anyone know if that's available?

Actually that was prolly a bit stronger than what SS said...better modify that with his usual qualifiers...they haven't made a "go-nogo" decision on that yet.

Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but live coverage just started on Science Channel. If your cable system doesn't carry NASA TV and you don't want to watch it on computer this looks like a reasonable alternative.
Two hours of live coverage is scheduled, followed by repeats of one hour MRO documentary and Roving Mars. Paul |

hey Emily, thanks for answering my question on when the HiRISE images will hit the ground. Was curious if I should head into work for a bit tomorrow to hover over someone's shoulder.

Try double-clicking on the image, it works when the main button doesn't answer.

What is the reason that Phoenix will use Pulse thrusters to land on Mars instead of chemical thrusters which were used others spacecrafts landing on Moon?
I know that the 2 Vikings used the same Pulse Thrusters Technology. What are the advantages of using that technology? One important thing is that the spacecraft will have about 600 kg on Earth or about 198 kgs on Mars. I suspect that the pulsed thrusters has an advantage to damage less on the surface than a chemical engine. |
