New status report from Squyres on Spirit and Oppy. It looks as though she is headed for the summit; I'll bet we do make the summit, expecially since there are a couple of rock climbers on the MER staff. I look at reaching the summit as secondary to the science we can do: we'll visit it "because it's there", we can make some wonderful panoramas, but I'd rather see new rocks and geomorph. I'm looking forward to visiting the ledges and the dark area and Home Plate to the south of the summit. --Bill -------------------- |

I bet that the way to the Summit is very compact and very easy to climb. I think it is worth to reach it since it has the place where ones sure can make a final juice to decide on the best way to explore.
