As Spirit is climbing, our vision of distant featurers inside Gusev crater should improve... However, I was a little disappointed when comparing an old PanCam image ("West Spur", almost a year ago) with latest view in the same direction and with same L257 filters set:

In the old image, you can clearly view South mesas (about 22 Km away) and even the very far Gusev Rim (almost 60 Km away!)... I had forgot these crisp views! blink.gif
I know this should be related to seasonal changes in atmosphere transparency, my question is: should we wait next martian winter in order to see again farthest features?

Nice comparison. You're right on Gusev rim, not really visible right now but I don't think we should be concerned. It turns up in navcam if I'm not mistaken.
yeah those crisp views of the rim are superb tongue.gif especially some navcam images seen in stereo...
The mesas are still behind the hill though. patience.. biggrin.gif
