More *yawn* dust devils (2)

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all...56P0660L0M1.JPG

Spirit would be hard pressed, I think, to make it through a day of navcam/pancam shots of the plains and -not- catch a dust devil in the act.

What are you talking about?!? Run towards the Devils! They'll save you. biggrin.gif

Doug, maybe you should create an animated GIF of a solar panel getting cleaned, to go along with wheel.gif and pancam.gif

Ooohh Ohhh! An animated GIF of a dust devil would totally rock. I'm trying to create a 64x64 animated GIF from the center of that movie, but I don't have any animated GIF editors.

Whew. It took a while, but I finally made it!

Anyone can use this as they wish!

Here's an 30x30 version suitable for using as an emoticon...*hint hint* smile.gif

The solar irradiation must be high a t m. That makes hope for going on of the better Gusev visibility.

Yes. And I have a question, but maybe that belongs in the technical imegary section...

These are B&W movies, does anyone know if it is possible to do near-reallife colorrenderings of those? Now we see 'white' columns, but they're probably another hue?

Is dilo's Avatar 'true-color' or close to it?

Unfortunately - because they move so quickly - it's impossible to photograph them really - as one has to cycle between three filters to make a colour image - in which time the devil's moved 100 metres or more

Hm. Or rather D'oh!

but can't you -very roughly- extrapolate this info, from different devils through different filters?

To have at least an idea of the true colors?

Well - we'll need the one or two times DD's have been caught by pancam to filter thru to the Workbook before taking the IMG's and having a go then - but it'll be a while

ARGGGHHHH!! The one time I'm away from by broadband connection and this happens.
It takes long enough to load the plain text of these pages not to mind trying to download the images and then uploading the animated gifs I'm dying to make.
No chance. smile.gif

DAMN YOU DIAL-UP!!!
In fact this is even slower than dialup however it manages it.
Coming home to the suburbs of a small Irish village certainly has it's disadvantages.

I'll look forward to seeing and getting my hands on these when I get back. smile.gif

Fantastic DD movie! It seems unusual for them to be moving right-to-left (north-to-south?). Haven't most of them in the past gone from left-to-right?
I'll have to go back and check. Maybe a frontal passage or wind shift indicating a change in season is coming.
