Hi, I’m Jake Matijevic and I’ll be giving the Flight Director’s Report for June 10th, 2005.

On Spirit, today is sol 511 in the early morning. On sol 510 Spirit began an in-situ investigation of a rock called Backstay. The day before, back surface was prepared by a RAT brushing that cleared some dust away from the area where in the in-situ investigation Spirit will take close-up images and perform a mineralogy spectroscopy in this area. This in-situ investigation will continue for the next several days and until next weekend which Spirit will begin to move back from this area and start its climb once again up Husband Hill in the Columbia Hills.

In the meantime regional dust storms have continued to form on Mars and these are affecting the energy levels both on Spirit as well as on the other side of the planet for Opportunity. Opportunity is sol 490 in the late afternoon. And today she’s starting to move away from the dune form which had been her home for about the last month and a half. She’ll be making a very slow arcing turn and returning back to the area of the dune where she will take in-situ measurements of the regulus that formed the dune as well as the track she made during her egress.

And that’s what’s happening on Mars today and thank you.
