Good afternoon, I’m Byron Jones and this is the Flight Director’s report for Wednesday, June 22nd.
On Spirit, the sol is 522 and she’s on the road again. She spent the last week or so driving away from their last science area called Methuselah and are taking the high road to one of the summits of Husband Hill. On the other side of Mars, for Opportunity, it’s sol 502. She spent the last five weeks or so embedded in a sand dune and has just gotten out. She’s going back to the target they’re calling Purgatory. And now you may be wondering why would they go back to such a place? Well, they’d like to characterize the sand in the dune where they were stuck to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks for tuning in, I’m Byron Jones and that’s what’s happening on Mars today. |
