I do not know if is Voltaire or another one, but the fractured rock Spirit is analyzing is pretty interesting...
First, there is a strange "extruded" portion, visible in the right/low region of this "crossed eyes" stereogram: ![]() Herebelow, L257 PanCam image in the top portion; I highlighted in red the portion pictured with MI (lower mosaic): ![]() Many interesting features, here. In addition to the sand filled fracture, there is a strange circular feature (enlarged in the small picture)... someone could see a biological fossil fingerprint in it ?... -------------------- I always think before posting! - Marco -

Hi Nirgal, your colorized mosaic is simply amazing!
Do you based it also on some PanCam true color picture, or is totally artificial? -------------------- I always think before posting! - Marco -

QUOTE (dilo @ Jul 30 2005, 02:15 PM) Hi Nirgal, your colorized mosaic is simply amazing! Do you based it also on some PanCam true color picture, or is totally artificial? 100% synthetic: I only used a single-band b/w mosaic for this image (although I did try to reproduce a color palette from pancam shots of the same area) I have also tried to automatically "match" the pancam images to the MI-subframe... which can give very accurate colors, but only in a low "color resulotion" of several hundreds real MI pixels per downsampled Pancam "color pixel" ... So I stick to hand-coloring with homgrown filters & algorithms that can give at least the illusion of a very high color resolution (at the price of accuracy, ... but for me it's also a lot of fun to bring in a little "artistic license" with my own color interpretation of otherwise purely b/w scenes. (this always reminds me of the fun we had as children when coloring the painting book |

Nirgal, you are truly a master of your craft! That mosaic is very realistic looking despite it being "100 percent synthetic". Your rendering has convinced me -- in my mind -- that we're looking at a breccia that was subsequently altered by whatever process occured at Columbia Hills.
How you colorized any other MI mosaics or images? -------------------- |

However, due to the fine summer weather here, I'm currently spending more time on the mountain bike than in front of the computer |

Last MI images (again from Sol557) are puzzling too:
note the bright fractures on the left, the spherules near bottom and, again, another "fossil"a on the top/right -------------------- I always think before posting! - Marco -

This might fall into another category, but I have a question. It has been about a month and a half since I have been able to see jvandriel's images. Every time I try to view them, I get the response that it cannot be displayed because it "contains errors." I have tried this in multiple browsers, and have tried downloading directly, but with no success. It is obvious others can see them? Any suggestions? I am really fond of his work (or your work, if you are jvandriel), and I would like to be able to view the images again.

No ideas why you have probs. What viewer/editor are you using to look at them? Have you tried to download the image file as "Save target As...", instead of "Save Image"? --Bill -------------------- |

No wonder Spirit wants to hang around there for a bit. Must be hungry after such a long trek.
