It took some nerve to position the MI so close to such a pointy object.

Now, that is the first rock I've seen in any of the images from the MERs that looks like a crystalline rock. It's got a fine, almost sugary crystalline structure that becomes apparent along the end of the "point."

It almost looks granitic, doesn't it?

It certainly has a texture to it... ...impact or volcanic breccia seems more likely, though some granite would be *nice*!
