Thank you for the nice colour image dilo.
Once again my idea of a glacial flow hits me. The idea got started by seeing the feature behind and a bit to the right of home plate. And Home plate would then have been a small hill that have been grinded down by same glacier. I do live in a part of the world where most land features have been shaped by glaciation. So im biased towards such thinking, anyone tell me if I am completely wrong here, or? |

QUOTE (Myran @ Aug 26 2005, 12:54 AM) Thank you for the nice colour image dilo. Myran: I know where you're coming from, but I think it simply demonstrates our Terrestrial prejudices. Glaciation is an on-going process on Earth, and within the breadth of human occupation of our planet it *has* radically altered landscapes. We're talking here about an Earthly Ice Age ending circa 25KYBP, and major landscape changes (on and off) over a few tens of millions of years prior to that. On Mars, it's a timescale of thousands of millions of years, and in that time very small erosional effects can add up, and add up, and add up. The Martian landforms which we interpret in terms of our local experience may well actually be the result of a much longer, colder and slower set of processes. That's not to say that glaciation can't have happened on Mars, or still be happening (or even (gasp!) water erosion) - just that we have to be very cautious before being persuaded by our local circumstances. Mars IS another planet, and things DO happen differently there (think of the lobate flows around impact craters) and - most importantly - on a timescale which is quite unlike our own ultra-dynamic world. As for glaciation: I want to see eskers, terminal moraines, and all that stuff, and I want to see it NOW!
