The Artifact

On Sol 50 Spirit got several pictures and especially:

2N130812340EFF1000P1901R0M1.jpg
2N130812340EFF1000P1901L0M1.jpg

Here, we can see and bright, shiny object like a metallic pin.

Some studies shows that this pin could be fallen off the backshield sailing over the region shown here after releasing the lander. NASA did not comment that interesting event.

The Anaglyph was made from the upper mentioned frames after removing the pixel bleeding around "the object". smile.gif

I think it's from that very imaging sequence that Emily posted a colour version of that I made this...

This thing moving in the wind looks really... Earthy. It is something very familiar, I mean.

I have consulted with Lowell W. Ribbett, the Chief Grand Toadie of Kooks Online and we have concluded that the metal pin is, in fact, a cosmic d00bie.

So there. tongue.gif

Marvin, you say?

Looks more like Kenny to me! Perhaps we're arguing over something that Cartman dropped...

Eeek!

I only discovered this forum in September. Now it is a part of my daily routine.

I had been corresponding with Emily Lakdawalla of The Planetary Society, and she turned me on to the forum. After seeing the amazing things all of you are doing on a routine basis, I suggested to Emily that she do a Blog on the Planetary Society website, touting the incredible accomplishments of the international community here, and sharing the unmanned spaceflight forum with the other members of the Planetary Society.

But Emily demurred, stating that she was afraid publishing a link would send many "loonies" to this wonderful scientific forum, which she calls "one-stop-shopping" for space science.

After reading this thread, I have to wholeheartedly endorse her decision. So Doug, you are not the only one trying to safeguard the forum.

Almost completely off-topic, but one of the stunts proposed for the old Rotary Rocket SSTO vehicle was - wait for it - delivering packages for FedEx etc. The thing was, Rotary Rocket reckoned that not only could they deliver point-to-point anywhere on Earth in about an hour, but that they could actually deliver packages *yesterday* by crossing the International Date Line!

This could lead to the Pythonesque outcome of the head of said horse being delivered even before the offence had been committed, as a, well, a *warning*... ...you know, if you'd broken one of the unwritten rules, and the Piranha Bros just asked you to screw your own pelvis to a coffee table to save them the effort...

...ahem.

As I don't want a horse's head delivered (either today or yesterday) I will certainly observe both rules scrupulously! smile.gif

Actually, it's not nearly as bad as we're making it appear. There have been ample opportunities for this forum to have been invaded, and it didn't happen, thank goodness. We're just having a little light-hearted fun.

You just need to keep it in the family. wink.gif

BTW, no need for FedEx or even rocket delivery. My cousin Vinnie, in Chicago said he'd be happy to personally deliver horse heads, or Mars Bars, for the members of this forum. cool.gif

Third rule: you DO talk about unmannedspaceflight.com to the right people. I've been informing various friends in "the business" about this forum from time to time. I wonder what proportion of lurkers have NASA center or research university email addresses? We'll probably never know. Everybody who posts here, give a wave to all those JPLers and APLers and others who lurk! smile.gif

[pre-emptively obfusc*ted my words for the search engines]
Okay, not much here about all those NASA conspir*cy nonsense-nuggets... and its always tongue-in-cheek anyway. I think tr*lls and Hoaxlanders would find these threads to "dry" (informative) to get interested anyway, IMHO, theres an bumper crop of 'anom*ly' sites out there blaring their siren songs that will suck them in... so im not worried, the big 'newmars' forums rarely suffer from hoaxie/tr*ll attacks (maybe im wrong?).

No marti*n snail shells or crin*id f*ssils erased by the rat as part of some "destr*y-all-evid*nce-that-doesnt-fit-the-paradigm' para-g*vernmental bl*ck-ops program with secr*t ag*nts peering over Steve Squires' shoulder. no broken m*rtian m*chinery parts and anci*nt ruin fr*gments strewn about the landscape. Heck, not even any gigantic Gl*ss Dome constr*ctions on the Moon... okay... ...but there is a sort of 'F*ce on Mars' thread here (BowTieGuy looks like H*mer Simps*n if you ask me)...

If there weren't that strict a line, there might as well be none. So it stays. smile.gif
