Spirit is now almost at the bottom of Inner Basin.

Time to start a new topic.

Here is a 360 degree panoramic view taken with the L0 navcam on Sol 667.

Do you think so Tesheiner?
Isn't that to much sand for Spirit's truck?...

Dunno if it's too much sand or not.

But here is a "collage" of the last drive-direction panorama overlayed on top of a navcam pano. The planned drive seems to be to Eldorado.

bagus, at the yellow forum requested so I made a version including the corridor of interest in the official traverse maps:

I can see them going in for a closer look, and even stopping for a Moessbauer, APXS, or MIs if they are curious about the composition of the dark sand/silt/dust. But there would be little to gain from venturing into the drift field. We know they are in a hurry to complete observations in the basin and get up the hill on the opposite side, so at best, we'll get a quick peek. With the spectrometer integrations taking so long these days, we might not even get them.

I see her going to the edge of the dark sand and doing a compositional sniff and a peek for particle size, but agree that there is little reason to go into the drift field. I see more Pancams looking back on the way to Homeplate to define the structure/morphology of the drift field.

One thing that occurred to me after I posted that, was that this would be the first large expanse of drifts that Spirit has encountered. If we get a closer peek, we should be on the lookout for mini-craters like the ones that have been so common at Meridiani. If we see any, it could support the idea that they are tiny impacts.
