Yeah, kind of a shocking amount of "news" in English language media is sourced from that page. Zak is pretty good but he's not a primary source, so I'd take anything sourced from his page with a grain of salt, because his news is only as good as his sources. I had an interesting email exchange with a couple of writers for RIA Novosti's Science pages. They told me that most of their "unnamed sources" are actually people from within Lavochkin or Roskosmos who just won't speak on the record. Which is good as far as that goes, but people who are not speaking on the record are also less obligated to be completely truthful or to tell the whole story, so while I'm slighly reassured, I'm still leery of those "unnamed sources." As for official sources, well, it's Russia, so there's a nonzero chance that officials are, if not lying, at least glossing over certain facts or not telling the whole story. Given all these uncertainties I still try to stick as much as possible to reporting on the official story, if only because that'll make it easier to discover eventually if there is a contradiction that makes it clear that there was something fishy about some part of the official story. -------------------- |

According to Simone Corbellini, who calculated this from flare observations, FG maintains Sun orientation on the longitudinal axis. He added the prediction calculation to his website.

I can't think of an easy way to estimate the reentry date. However, we know the resistance will climb exponentially as the altitude decreases, and, based on the slope change at the end of that altitude curve, it won't be long. has anyone made a prediction?

How many potentially small-chance events do you design against before you are providing less benefit than it's worth is always going to be a judgement call.
