The Magellan Cloud image is so beautiful that is worth to play a little bit with it!
So I first removed the strong, slightly inclined pattern with some "Flat Field" correction, using a method similar to the one already used by Doug/Phil. Then I used Focus Magic to remove trails of stars (motion blur)... All this "magic" improvement is resumed in the gif animation cool.gif

And the bright star in the lower center is wandering. Here is the same field 184 seconds later.

In the same Sol (696) Spirit took this beautiful color image:

(on the right the flat-field version)... I initially suspected it was Jupiter with a "green" Earth below, but following comparison (same scale) done with Solar System Simulator show that both star positions and Earth-Jupiter distance aren't correct:
