QUOTE (PhilCo126 @ Dec 27 2005, 02:30 PM) Do we have some Spanish readers here? I can't find the ESA ground stations in Google Earth ( maybe 1 is in the area which has lesser resolution images )... Anyway, does someone has coordinates for: 1. Villafranca del Castillo ( 30 kilometers West of Madrid ) 2. Cebreros ( 90 kilometers West of Madrid ) Instead o Villafranca del Castillo try Villanueva de la Cañada and the closest to Cebreros is Ávila -------------------- "Ride, boldly ride," The shade replied, "If you seek for Eldorado!"

Chill, Doug, chill... s'okay. For the foreseeable future, I'll be working 60 hours a week, without a management crew that can cover any vacation time, and *still* not making enough money to afford much more than a visit to Duluth.
I was just being a wise-ass, OK? I didn't seriously mean to imply that you're being unfair. I *do* understand. -the other Doug -------------------- “The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right.” -Mark Twain

It would be very nice for everybody have two very important things: have plenty money to travel and have a plenty time in order to enjoy the meeting. I agree that it would be easier and cheaper to take a meeting by turn where there are the majority of members by starting first to Europe where Doug lives...

We should have simultaneous meetings in the U.S. and Europe, and set up a high definition (1920x1080) video link between the two. That way nearly everyone can attend without crossing any oceans.

QUOTE (um3k @ Dec 27 2005, 05:21 PM) We should have simultaneous meetings in the U.S. and Europe, and set up a high definition (1920x1080) video link between the two. That way nearly everyone can attend without crossing any oceans. It would be very nice, but is barely possible using highly expensive sat links as used by pro-broadcasters. A webcast MIGHT be plausable, but what might make some real sense would perhaps be just an audio webcast, and people presentations available to download before the event. (would also cost a lot less as well) Let's concentrate on when, where, how, who - before figuring out the fancy extras. The 'last resort' imho would be to video all the presentations, with an HDTV Camera if possible, and distribute a WMV-HD DVD. Doug |

If we could have a list of possible places to visit, we could vote afterwards ?

I have the answer!
http://www.seeglasgow.com/media-office/new...tion-convention The IAF 2008 Congress is in Glasgow, hosted by the BIS (next year it's in Valencia, and New Delhi in 2007). We should arrange a fringe meeting at both the Valencia and the Glasgow events (New Delhi would be nice, but we'd need folk on the ground). I'd be delighted to liaise with the appropriate people locally, and of course Glasgow is reasonably 'local' for all our UK participants (and easy to get to across the Atlantic or from other parts of Europe, especially using low-cost airlines like EasyJet). As well as the main Glasgow site at the SECC there are other potential locales such as the Glasgow Science Centre and IMAX cinema, just beside the new BBC flagship building - so I'm sure we could steal serious net resources to do a good deal. Okay my vote _Massif Central - go hiking together - share data and experience over a beer at night, two-day trip.

Actually, Nico, I'd prefer either the North or South Massif...
