Short time to enjoy Eldorado images and now... just released picture of HomePlate, I know still hundred of meters away but seems so close! smile.gif
stitch of two Sol712 NavCams:

It seems Spirit is now at the same level of HomePlate plateau!

Here I tried to identify some features seen from the summit... not totally sure on bright sand spots and rocks, any suggestion?

Looks like a 'look back' to El-D to me - I'm desperate to see that as we're in some comparatively 'Alan is lost' type terrain here smile.gif

I'm curious to see a wider view of El Dorado from far away, one caughting all the area west of the dark sand field...Unknown terrain so far...

Great! So am I correct that the planned route is roughly along the yellow track, swinging along behind the small rise toward H.P. which is just in front of "Pitcher's Mound?", if that's it peeking above the ridge?

I feel that Spirit won't be able to climb that small hill. Perhaps, Spirit must go further on the left side of hill and see about the land. I think that that hill is not ones of HP but a previous of HP.

Interesting little outcrop right there in front...wonder if this is the first look at some Home Plate-type material? I like the black rock sitting there all out of place as well... smile.gif

I suspect that the light-toned, layered rock is the same unit as Homeplate, just as Comanche and Pitcher's Mound are the same overlying dark unit. Look at the MOC image that Tesheiner is using as the basemap for his Spirit route maps.

I've not heard a peep from JPL about the mineralogy of that unit. Any guesses?

Don't know what it might be, but I'm almost sure it'll be "Dramatically different from anything we've seen anywhere else"

Home Plate looks a ring with light color at the center and has dark color in rings. I have no idea about how this has formed. It looks like that the center of the HP is the water fountain with its interaction with the volcano lava.
