Good morning, I’m Byron Jones and this is the Flight Director Report for Thursday, February 2nd. It’s been a while since we’ve had an update and since then we’ve had a few great milestones. On January 3rd, we celebrated Spirit’s second anniversary of her landing and on January 24th we celebrated Opportunity’s second anniversary for her landing.

It’s sol 741 for Spirit and she’s been driving all week getting anywhere from 12 to 40 meters. Yestersol we got 40 meters towards our new goal of ‘Home Plate’. We are trying to reach Home Plate briskly so that we can take science there and move onto the northerly tilted slopes for the wintertime.

On the other side of Mars it’s sol 721 for Opportunity and she’s been at the rim of Erebus Crater for quite some time now. Over the weekend we’ll be doing some Moessbauer integration, Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer work and also taking some micro imaging mosaics.
Next week, we hope to pack up shop there and head south toward Victoria Crater. Victoria is about two kilometres away and that is our next big science goal for Opportunity.

Well that’s it for today, I’m Byron Jones and that’s what’s happening on Mars today.
