QUOTE (Fred @ May 27 2004, 05:18 AM) Did anyone notice the large boulder towards the left end of the image? It looks like it's made of two materials-- part of it is dark and shiny. Does anyone have any comments? Fred, throughout Spirit's drive to Bonneville and now the Hills there have been a number of examples of this. I can't find the image that shows this rock from another angle and farther away, but check this -> Click here for link I'm referring to the larger rock in the foreground to the right. It has a darker rock apparently on top of it, but in the far image (I'll post it when I get my home PC up and running again) there appears to be a darker, flat, expanse on the 'backside'. Definately a different material than the whiteish rock underneath. A similar situation to Click here for link I'm referring to the rock that is just to the right and just above the center of the image, it may be harder for you to spot, but there does appear to be two layers to it. It all reminds me of the way tar looks when it is stuck to the rocks at the beach. The first link above reminded me a little of the 'neural parasites' from the Original Star Trek episode "Operation Annihilate!". I am to geology what William Hung is to singing, but it would be cool if one of the lifeforms on Mars was the darker 'rock' and it's food was the lighter rocks.
