Great job with the 280 degree McMurdo panorama, Damien! What an incredibly detailed panorama. The layering along the base of McCool is easily visible. The lighter-toned appearance of the McCool basal unit is very similar to Home Plate, no?

While we are on the subject of anaglyphs.
I have observed that on occasion the image is too stereo-harsh, that is, it takes on a cartoonish stereo look like a Disney Viewmaster. (due to various causes I won't get into here) I have found that if you reduce the overall color saturation in a simple red-blue monochrome glyph it tends to tone down that harsh stereo effect. -------------------- If Occam had heard my theory, things would be very different now.

Latest McMurdo - 20 columns- with full resolution option this time (17Mb!) (don't worry, there are smaller versions as well)
Still needs a bit of contrast matching work and the artificial sky/horizon boundary is not perfect. But this was mainly a test that I could actually make the full res version in perparation for the finished product. Cheers, James -------------------- |

Wow! I just can't over the amount of detail, not only in the foreground but also along the slopes of McCool Hill. Job well done, James!!

Here is an updated version of McMurdo pan, the horizon only. The field of view is now at 310°.
And my first step in polar projection, to show the progression of the pano : For information, I've make this polar projection with Blender. I made a sphere onto I apply a texture : the pano. In a second time, I made an other sphere which is as a miror. At the end, I placed a camera under the spherical miror and rendered the image. Ow! This my post number 103 -------------------- |

Here is an updated version of McMurdo pan, the horizon only. The field of view is now at 310°. I spy blue sky! Is this (i) an artifact of the image processing, (ii) genuine and due to azimuth with respect to the sun or (iii) genuine and due to dust clearance over the time it has taken to build up the picture? I notice the sky isn't blue on other versions of the panorama. |

ngunn : the blue sky is not an artefact of the process. I think it's simply the color of the sky at this point (opposite to the sun and at a more 10° elevation on the sky). You said that you haven't see this on other pictures, in exemple James Canvin. He makes an artificial sky to uniformize the color (there are a bit sharpen between two images).
I don't want to make this, I want the respect the colors of the sky and the variation of tone of it. -------------------- |

For those who don't scan 'the other forum', horton h.a.w. has produced some knockout 3Ds from the McMurdo pan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hortonheardaw...57594179653864/
Clear color benefits from the X-eyed pairs, for those who don't mind a little "pumping iron" with the eye muscles! Thanx, HH. -------------------- My Grandpa goes to Mars every day and all I get are these lousy T-shirts!
