"Engineers hope to put Spirit atop Husband Hill so it can get a view all the way to the edge of vast Gusev Crater, in which it landed."

Are there any high resolution images of Victoria Crater from MGS? If Opportunity makes it that far it's going to be an incredible landscape.

I looked around a bit for a MOC image, but didn't find any that captured the area around Victoria Crater. THEMIS has it in one image, but the resolution is only a bit better (its probably the source image for that area in the landing elipse mosaic in Pando's image above)

Judging from the scale of the THEMIS image, the crater is about 750m across.

$5 says that MGS has imaged it by now - we just dont have it in the public domain yet. Mike Malin likes to hide his little picture away for as long as he can get away with sad.gif Where are the images showing the rovers on the move that he promised etc etc sad.gif

Victoria looks like a BEAUTY smile.gif And the Heatshield as well.

At 100m a day, every other day, that 3 miles is an equiv of about 100 sols of driving - for 6 months, Opportunity has been the rover that was scared to go too far from home. Now it's middle aged - it's getting a mid life crisis and sports-car performance to match smile.gif

I think during the drive to Endurance Crater, Opportunity drove a maximum of 140m in one Sol. I reckon they could probably do even better than that.

....6 months of driving? They better start soon then lol blink.gif Are they planning on exiting Enduarance right away and starting the drive or waiting until the power situation improves a little more?

At about 750m across, the Victoria Crater would be slightly smaller than the Barringer Crater in Arizona, USA (which is 1.2km across)...

Stitched up from Themis and MOC imagery

I cant find any MOC imagery of it at all - but you can be sure as hell that Malin's got it sat on the MSSS server. He should take a lesson out of the THEMIS release book. regular, rapid, and accesable resources.

The dune field in the bottom of Victoria is certainly large, shows up nice in photo above. Hope there is a way down into it.
