Prisma, automatic rendesvous, Technology needed for ESA Mars sample return?

I cant but wonder if this might be part in a long term strategy for one ESA Mars sample return mission:

The Prisma rendezvous mission are one experiment with autonomous flying and rendezvous technology. With Sweden as the main contractor and financer, in cooperation with Germany, France and Denmark the mission are scheduled for 2009.
