If you look at some of the lakes in Exploitcorporation's image that I modified (particularly the large one to the right of the circled area), their shorelines might be receding, leaving behind a grayish halo.

Impossible to say what's actually at work here from one sample, though. This might just mean there's a shallow near-shore area for some of the lakes; hopefully, we'll get another look at this place in a year or two to see what's been going on. Heck, monitoring the lakes is actually a really good objective for an extended mission! smile.gif

Here's an update with the T18 swath released today. Positional accuracy is questionable. Olvegg, if you'd like to take a crack at adding this to your map, let me know how close we are with the smaller lakes visible in the new track. As with the earlier post, this is of course just a tide-over until the official version comes out...

Olvegg, I used your map template for this overlay. The grid lines are missing, but the T18 lakes were dead on in agreement in terms of longitude. This version is part of a post(credited) in the T25 thread used in an effort to locate the new dark features near the terminator.

Thank you, Exploitcorporations. I decided to wait for T25 release (if there'll be one).

I am not sure where to post this, but we have been talking about Titan nomenclature on this thread, so I'll put it here.

From Saturn Today, Five New Names Approved for Titan Surface Features

QUOTE
The following five names have been approved for use on Titan: Ara Fluctus, Leilah Fluctus, Rohe Fluctus, Winia Fluctus, and Polelya Macula.

According to this site, the names of gods and goddesses of beauty are to be applied to the landform type 'Fluctus' (a flow terrain) on Titan:

Ara: Armenian god famous for his beauty, also known as a resurrected god who dies and is reborn periodically.

Leilah: Persian goddess of beauty and chastity.

Rohe: Beautiful Māori goddess, wife of Māui.

Winia: Indonesian first woman, known for her great beauty.

Here's a direct link to a map showing the locations (830kbyte PDF). These all appear to be features visible in the Ta SAR swath.

Might sound dumb but could Cassini ever be positioned in an over extended mission to orbit Titan??Is it impossible to decay the current orbit to that around Titan?? unsure.gif

In short: No, it cannot possibly be put into orbit around Titan. It doesn't have enough fuel and was never designed for any exotic methods such as aerobraking.

Thought I'd post this here. It's been out for a while but I haven't noticed it being discussed. This is the one that finally convinced me we are seeing liquid.

I'm looking forward to seeing more examples of this drying out process over the coming months.

Could these lakes be Carolina Bays and share a similar formation process?

(replace: methane instead of water, methane/ethane table instead of water table, organic gunk instead of silicate rock)

[Will they have Cheerwine, Moon Pies, and James Taylor out there as well?]

100% version of north polar mosaic. The disortions are awful, but it gives overall picture.

Olvegg, that's superb, thank you... really does give an impression of the stunning nature of the north polar regions... ohmy.gif

You know, I just can't stop thinking about how, a mere few years ago, Titan was just a starry speck of light shining next to Saturn in my telescope's eyepiece... now I have maps showing its lakes, seas, rivers, mountains and plains... I know it rains there, has winds, and clouds... icy stones litter at least part of its surface... it's incredible, it truly is...
