Hard to believe, I know, but today is the 21st anniversary of the loss of Challenger. I'm sure many people here have their own memories of that awful, awful day. Mine are up on my blog here... too long to post here.

I was in the 11th grade at school but I do remember this well. Within 24 hours after the disaster, there were space shuttle jokes flying all over the place. I will not submit any such jokes here out of respect for the dead astronauts and their families, but they are definitely out there!

I was 11 and had received a month before, by Christmas, a miniature shuttle.
It was hard to digest those shocking images.
So shocking that they've been strongly imprinted in my memories, so strongly that every time a Shuttle lifts off, they come to mind...I cannot avoid it.

21 years ago already...Time ain't what it used to be...

Wow, real interesting to hear your stories.

I was just 8 and for Christmas I had just received one of my first serious books on space, it was called 'Exploring Space' and the front cover had a previous Challenger launch photo on it. Such an optimistic book with a shuttle on the front that was going to do all these great things, how quickly it all changed. The book, with my 6 year old sisters 'Christmas 1985' message inside, is one of my most treasured possessions to this day.
