Hello, it’s Wednesday May 19th and this is the Flight Director update for the Mars Exploration Rovers. My name is Chris Lewicki and I’m working on both spacecraft today.

On Spirit, we just finished sol 134 and it was the second in our drive quartets. Yesterday we drove 113 meters bringing our odometry to a total of 2473 meters and we are just 780 meters away from our initial location at Columbia Hills. Today we’re planning on 80 to 120 more meters of driving. And tomorrow on sol 135 we may be trenching and using the subsequent sols to investigate that trench.

On the other side of the planet at Meridiani Planum Opportunity is circumnavigating Endurance crater. Yesterday was a limited day and today will also be a limited day due to the reduced energy that we have available to us as we are pointed slightly away from the sun on this part of the crater. In our short time of operations today we hope to do a little bit of remote sensing drive to within just a couple meters of our Pan position number 2 on the southeastern ledge of Endurance crater. So far on Opportunity we have 1210 meters of total odometry and we’re looking forward to continuing our survey of Endurance crater.

And that’s what’s happening on Mars today.
