Hello, my name is Scott Doudrick. This is the Flight Director’s report for Mars Exploration Rover. Today is Friday June 11th. It is sol 156 for Spirit and sol 135 for Opportunity. We’ve got more very interesting images coming down. We’re getting into new terrain on both rovers.

On Spirit it’s new in that we finally reached the bottom of the hills. We’ve been working at it for quite some time, but here in the last couple of sols we’ve been able to see a real difference in the terrain. Most of what we’ve seen so far is soil with rocks on top. Now a lot of the rocks are actually embedded in what we’re driving over and we’re just beginning to explore what it’s like up on the slopes.

For Opportunity, we’ve driven slightly further into the crater than we did before. We’re just a few centimeters beyond where we were, but we’ve proven now that we can drive fairly reliably on the edge of the crater. And we will begin to slowly move our way in over the next couple of sols. The little outcrop of darker material is getting closer though and that arm should be out there pretty soon.

Again, this is Scott Doudrick, and have a good day.
