I picked up "The Hubble Wars" by Eric Chaisson at Half Price Books and find it an interesting read. Dr. Chaisson was a public service liason to the Science Institute during the pre-launch, launch, and commissioning phase of th4e Hubble Space Telescope.

I am a mechanical engineer and find the book very interesting reading. HST is a large, complicated, and costly project where systems engineers, and testing, often could not, and did not, uncover problems until the HST was on-orbit.

From the main mirror issues, to infighting between NASA, SI, and contractors as well as active obfuscation and confusion, it's all there.

And if anybody ever says "thermally induced solar array jitter" about YOUR spacecraft, better read up on it! I think that one made a lot of engineers' careers dead in the water...
