I noticed a few images like this before - wide angle images of the G Ring, but i'm not sure what exactly we're seeing in the images, any ideas?

I would presume we're seeing views of the G Ring using forward-scattered light, which brings out very faint rings very well. (Remember Voyager 2's photos of Jupiter from behind, with its faint ring glowing around it like a neon sign?)
