The systemic blog (an amazing resource on the current state of exoplanet research) has a great synopsis of the events that led to the confirmation of HD 17156b as a transiting planet by a cadre of professional and amateur observers. Sites like Transitsearch (and other Pro/Am collaborations) are successfully bridging the two communities together, bringing in very impressive results! |
