Oh - I like them, but I wouldn't use them to say "this is Mars" without the chance to put that in context w.r.t. false colour imaging etc etc. In publishing, that chance is rarely there.

Sometimes I think that the 'False color' panoramas look better than the 'Real color' versions unsure.gif
From my point of view it is not so much that the false color images look better. I prefer them because they convey more compositional information than the "true" color imagery.

False-colour is great contrast-wise. I love it for that. But pushing the contrast in true-color makes it -subjectively- more appealing...

With all the images coming down I'm really looking forward to someone putting together a great color panorama from Winter Haven. I'm fuzzy on locating Fuzzy Smith, so I look forward to a labeled pan smile.gif

I hope they will start a new 'McMurdo' type pan (all filters) after the planned bump to the final winter position. Although obviously it will look almost the same as this one.

It might be a little tougher this winter for spirit to do a full McMurdo style panorama using all the filters, but who knows they might have Spirit do one smile.gif .

Um.... I suspect they will do a "mid-to-late fall" super panorama, instead of a "winter" pan. Much more feasible.

You may not feel the same way, but i feel peaceful when I look at the sand being blown at the beach.

Now take a look at this vista from Spirit (the foreground). Almost as if someone (or something :-) used a pen stroke.
When I saw this I was so peaceful I almost fell asleep!

Thanks Tesheiner for posting the labelled panorama. Fuzzy Smith doesn't look all that different from other rocks--does anyone remember or know why it was of particular interest? I assume it was different from other rocks by miniTES and Pancam spectra?

According to Steve Squires, 'Fuzzy Smith' is the most chemically different rock they have ever seen!

(this was before the discovery of Silica Valley?....)

Meanwhile, back at Home Plate, the elder sibling remains a shut-in, as her younger, more beautiful and mobile sibling once again commands the media spotlight.

"The sun always shines more brightly on the younger ones", she thinks wistfully, her glories at Everest in days long past now just a faded memory.

The rovers have a way of stealing the spotlight from each other. Months from now
you may feel sorry for Opportunity as we watch in rapt attention as Spirit approaches
the interesting features south of Home Plate.

Hmm, I wonder if this is just a random check or if they have noticed anything indicating that Spirit may have shifted a bit...
