Hi all,
I was wondering if I could get some advice from all you hardware and image processing gurus here at UMSF smile.gif

The time has come to replace my old CRT monitor for a new one, and I'm quite tempted to try a TFT monitor this time.
Thing is..

I work in graphic arts as an illustrator, and good and correct color output is absolutely mandatory.
I've always heard that TFT monitors have poor color reproduction, hence I always bought CRT ones.

Nevertheless, after so many years of development, I wonder if modern TFTs still have that handicap.

Do you use CRTs or TFTs while crafting your gorgeous Mars images?
Do you find that modern day TFTs are up to par with CRTs?

Thanks in advance guys
Cheers

Thanks a lot for the imput guys!

Looks like if I want to have a TFT that most closely matches the CRT reliability regarding color I'll have to be prepared to buy and pay for top spec equipment.
And even then chances are that it still may not do as good a job as a top end CRT.

Price is of course a winning factor for CRTs, as they are still a lot cheaper. Nevertheless, TFT are much easier on the eyes (both physically and aesthetically), and working long hours staring at the screen has been taking a toll on mine as of lately.

Desk space is not so much a issue, but having a bit more wouldn't hurt either.

I have to say the reduced strain to the eyes would almost be a good enough reason alone to get a TFT.... but color is such a determining factor at my field (and all the work I do is for print)... well, I guess I'll have to give some a closer look and check out in situ how they perform.
Maybe give them 2 or 3 years more to develop a bit further

When you're using TFTs, are the blacks really black, or a dark shade of grey? Been hearing that TFTs have a bit of a problem with contrast as well
