I had a PC with WIn XP on it for a while... it stopped working about 5 weeks ago, it would freeze during start up, taking maybe a dozen attempts to get it going, then one day it wouldn't start up, it froze in the same place.
I've since managed to get an XP disc, put it in...it gave the option of repairing the installation, which it did - but not for long. I used it over night,, next time i switched it on... it froze again, restarted and it worked. It downloaded lots of software updates for XP, and kept bugging me to restart so I did. This is when it came up with BOOT DISK FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER So now i'm back to using my 8 year old Win ME PC again. I have tried the XP disk, but im wondering if the hard drive is dead. If i select repeair installation...it eventually goes back to C/: After looking around on the internet, I tried a few things I found. Typing chkdsk came up with the ominous message "one or more unrecoverable problems" I also tried a re-install, i'm not sure if it even finds the drive. Think it's completely dead? |

Well, i've got things going again !!!
I put the 80GB hard drive in my Win ME PC....using the recovery console on the XP disk I managed to tinker with the partitions and get my Win ME PC to recognise it as a second hard drive. I can't quite remember how but it worked lol. Using the jumper pins I made it the master hard drive and disconnected the old one - (only 13GB lol) I installed Win ME to it using my recovery disks I got with the Win ME PC.... and then managed to install XP over that. We'll see how long it lasts lol. Ughhh its taken HOURS to reinstall everything, restart, install software updates, restarts...... never again lol. |
