The original images taken of the SL9 impacts on Jupiter have a ugly blue fringe to the planets limb. I believe this was the result of software trying to align images taken through RGB filters...Those images were produced many years ago, is it possible to have another attempt at producing something a little more realistic from the RAW data with more modern software???

The problem was planetary rotation between frames.

True, though the effects of planetary rotation can be removed with a little care, warping two of the color filter images to match the geometry of the third. That's what I did to create this press release image a decade ago, though it was a bit easier because I was using only two filters.

John.
