A postscript for the heatshield, written nearly 200 years before the fact:

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.

OK, I admit, "colossal" is a stretch, but otherwise Shelly had it right.
