Well, that's it, I'm 44... but I like to think I'm only 22 in Mars years... celebrating my birthday by going to work, too, cos I couldn't get time off... sad.gif

But where's my rocket back pack? Where's my Jetsons flying car? Why don't CDs "last forever", like Maggie Philbin promised me they would on Tomorrow's World? Why is my desk covered in paper when the same Maggie Philbin promised me the world would be "paperless" by 2000?

More to the point, where's the sprawling Moon base I was promised when I was growing up, with gorgeous Eagle transporters skimming low and silently over grey lunar hills? Where's the first manned Mars base, with little pressurised rovers chugging around it? Where are all the space hotels? And where's HOTOL? Why do we still not know if there's life on Mars? Why have we still not detected a SETI signal? Why are we sitting here on the cold stone wall of the dock, looking out at a glittering ocean of stars and planets, too timid to wade out even a little and get our feet wet?

We really stalled somewhere, didn't we?

Just saying.
