Had a strange thought the other day when thinking about all the talent gathered here at UMSF and the fact that the cost of spaceflight is tied to the cost of paying the salaries of the people involved.
The idea is this: do you think it will ever be feasible to crowdsource (if only in part) the design, construction and operation of a small spacecraft? |

This is the principle behind Team Frednet's attempt at the Google Lunar X Prize. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.

This is the principle behind Team Frednet's attempt at the Google Lunar X Prize. I should have realised that they were using this method when I noticed this particular update on the Google Lunar X Prize site. If you're going to rely on the internet for anything, you're going to have to expect the occasional video of someone's cat. |
