The Planetary Society is embarking on a major effort to clean out our building in preparation for selling it and moving in to more modern quarters. (While this has something to do with the state of our finances, it has much more to do with the fact that our headquarters is an architecturally significant building that needs a lot of repair and restoration, and The Society has taken the decision that restoring significant architecture to the tune of several hundreds of thousands of dollars is not an appropriate use of our members' dues and donations.) As a result, in a month we'll be doing a great big sale and giveaway from the house, and among the things we're giving away are back issues of The Planetary Report.

I figure many people here would be interested in receiving back issues but won't be able to drop by the sale. So -- if the demand is not too overwhelming -- I might be interested in assembling packages of back issues for a small number of people. I'd ask you to pay for postage and a little extra for my time, whatever you think that's worth. I'd ship using Priority Mail flat rate boxes. I weighed a stack of Planetary Reports and it comes out almost exactly to one pound per year (6 issues). Here is the domestic Priority mail rate scale, and here is the international rate scale. I'd entertain requests for single issues but would prefer it if you'd just request whole years (or continuous date ranges) as that requires much less thinking on my part. I think I will probably be able to find whole years' worth going back to 1990; before that, there are some issues missing here and there from our collections.

Send me an email (blog at planetary.org) if you're interested.

Nprev, indeed we are having an enormous yard sale, on October 17. Lots of stuff will be given away. I hope we'll empty out two thirds of the crap treasures that have accumulated in our offices over two decades. If you're a member in Southern California you should be getting a postcard at some point.

For those of you who won't make it to the yard sale, I should point out we're also clearing out all our old merchandise from our online store -- we're going to be setting up a new shop with all-new merchandise. Posters and spacecraft kits are especially cheap. For those of you who are MER fans, you can get a Red Rover Goes to Mars patch for 50 cents. Why not?
