Here in Upper-Normandy, close to the City of Etretat, you will find one of the highest cliffs and capes alongside both sides of the Channel, being between 70m and 110m high.
Why did I put « Victorian » in the title ? Not only because there are capes and bays that remind of Victoria crater on Mars, but also because it was during the Victorian times that this place was very fashion to go for vacations from Paris. Now in the beginning of the 21st century, we see more and more people going to Upper-Normandy, because the natural landscapes are still devoid from any construction and environmental problems. Why ? Its mainly because of the dangerous, treatcherous and quick sea erosion coming from the sea with an average of 30cm per year advance inside the cliffs (and up to 1 meter/year in some places after big storms). Look at the great landslide at the foot of the cliff in the 1st picture and the series of landslides in the 2nd picture : they occurred last year ! The cliffs are white because they are made of chalk. Lots of birds, no more found in the rest of Europe, are nesting there and the crabs there are enormous (and tasty !). The two "pillars" in the sea (hereabove) show where the cliffs were standing in 1750-1800... (OK - 5 pics deleted after the Administrator's comment on post #9) |

I made a GBP donation to your WONDERFUL UMSF site... That doesn't back stuff up. That pays for a server. What it takes to back stuff up is TIME. Could you give the admin team (and it's a team, not a person) some of that? UMSF is not a for-hire personal photograph storage site. |
