I know many existing UMSF members already have their own pairs of 3D glasses, but new members (hello! by the way!) might be frustrated by not having a pair with which to enjoy the anaglyph images featured so frequently here on the forum. So, where do you get them from? ( And we're talking the old fashioned red-and-blue glasses here, not the new, funky, sunglass-type polarised shades, like the ones you, um, forgot to give back after watching "Avatar" at the cinema! Those will not work with the 3D images you'll see here on UMSF or on other websites.)

Well, there are quite a few companies selling 3D glasses, and a quick Google search for them will almost certainly find you one that's not too far away. But a much easier - and I'd say cheaper- alternative is to go down your discount book store, and have a browse round the kids section. There you will almost certainly find a 3D book about dinosaurs, or creepy crawlies, or monster trucks or something, and they will come with at least one pair of 3D glasses perfect for enjoying the anaglyph images you see here.

Failing that, take a look at the kids section in your local newsagent and I bet you'll find at least one magazine with a pair of 3D glasses being given away with it. This week, for example, the weekly kids magazine "Dr Who Adventures" (UK availability only, sorry) comes with a really good pair of 3D glasses, which are perfect for the job. (Some pretty cool Dalek and Amy Pond fridge magnets too, but that's a bonus )

Once you've got your glasses, have a good search through the archives of UMSF and you'll find some stunning 3D images made from Mars rover, Phoenix and even Cassini images.

They are also as low as $1.73 US for a pair made of solid plastic and there's even a pair of clip-ons for your prescription glasses, and many other choices under $5.00 US that you can find on Amazon:

Thanks EGD for that simple but effective shopping link that will now negate the need for the fading Shark Boy & Lava Girl pair!
I hope this heads up from Stu is in anticipation of the stunning view ahead of Oppy... and his awesome anaglyphs that (just like before), will give us that Mars Chill!

There's four+ different kinds of 3D at the cinema. Those glasses won't work in every one. The list includes Dolby 3D (colour filter), RealD 3D (circular polarization), Xpand 3D (active shutter) and IMAX 3D (linear polarization).
