Here's a vintage animation of the Mariner 10 Venus encounter. http://www.venus.wisc.edu/anim_mariner10.html
Very nice cloud rotation animations and processing (for its time) including movement centered on specific features. It's something that I always wanted to see and finally got to! -------------------- _______________________

the quality of the videotape is quite bad, but the video is fascinating.
makes me wonder how much computing time did it take to make these animations... -------------------- I'm one of the most durable and fervent advocates of space exploration, but my take is that we could do it robotically at far less cost and far greater quantity and quality of results.

Wow, video digitized from a U-Matic cassette!
That is practically antebellum technology. Seriously, though, it just underscores how important it is that archived data on older formats/media be 'regenerated' or transcribed as the cutting edge continues to advance. |
