I've been getting something similar lately; even though I have images for every sol almost none show up in the panoramas. Indeed, the sols themselves don't even show up in the list of available sols in pano mode even though I have selected the most generous number of possible parameters.

Maybe an issue with a recent meta file? The reason I did not bring it up earlier is because I moved all my images to another HD (a problem with a such a prolific mission...) but I did re-generate all etc. so I assumed that was the issue, but now I am not so sure. I will check slideshow mode later too; have not done that yet.

Hi,

I am using MMB 2.0 and have not been able to find a user manual for the tool. Can someone tell me where to find it?
I am trying to create panorama's from downloaded pictures but don't know how to do that. Anyways, most options appear to be greyed out.
Also, when trying to download Phoenix images, I quite often get a message the image is too large an wilol not be downloaded. How can I bypass this restriction?

Thanks

You should have received a user's manual when you purchased the product... ha ha, just kidding. This is free open-source software, and actually it's just one person's mostly-discarded hobby project. The program is not meant for a mainstream audience; in fact, I'm thinking about taking it offline at some point and only making it available to people here on UMSF on request.

There's a little documentation here (not much): http://code.google.com/p/midnightmarsbrowser/

Other than that, you need to figure it out for yourself, or ask a question here. It wouldn't hurt to go through the posts here, many questions have already been answered.

To export a panorama, you need to be looking at a panorama first. It's best to limit the panorama to just Navcam or Pancam images, as they don't mix in PTGui. Then select "Export Panorama Images..." in the File menu.

I you do a "Full Update" of the Phoenix images as opposed to a fast update, I believe it downloads all images regardless of size. But I haven't looked at it in some time.

Sorry for the late response, but yes, that did indeed do the trick! Now that does make me wonder, why did MMB just not keep the old data instead of (apparently?) removing it when it could not connect to the metadata source? I know, so many things!

Seems to be a small metadata bug for Opportunity's Beagle Crater (sol 904); I see a rock image floating in the sky - perhaps a sign inversion? Anybody else see that?

Because it can't tell the difference between a real page and a .Mac (now MobileMe) 404 page.

That's been there forever. It's a glitch on the JPL side, AFAIK, and I've just never compensated for it.

To clarify: I won't be deleting MMB from the Internet, even if that were possible. What I may be doing is removing some links to it, and posting more notices that it's unsupported software.

I'm also working on a sort of follow-up project, although it's far from clear at the moment if that's going to work out.

or ask a question here

What features does MMB 2.0 have and how do I use them? What can I do with the pictures I downloaded and how do go about that? Most options appear to be greyed out.
How do I create panorama's? How do I know which pictures to select for panorama's? How do I stitch photo's together? How can I delete all sundial images in one go? etc, etc.
Thanks for your help!

Those are pretty broad questions. I'm sorry, but I don't have time to write a whole introductory course on MMB. Maybe someone else can help.

That's an ENORMOUS number of questions, which, if you would just look 5 posts up you will see answers for.

Hi,

Let me rephrase my question a little. I consulted the page referrred to above (post 727), but the Help with the tool appears to be minimal. The tool itself is brilliant, no doubt. Without knowing how to use it, it's only a picture download tool for me. So, in order to create panorama's, what do I do? In other words, from launching MMB 2.0 on my computer what do I click and/or select in order to get the following image in MMB 2.0:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/marscat/22203...in/photostream/

Could someone tell me where I can find step by step instructions for this? Hovering over buttons to find out what they do as suggested in the documentation doesn't do it for me as most options are greyed out. I am sure there are some simple steps in order to make panorama's work, but haven't found out yet...

Thanks so much!

First step would be to view a panorama. Restart MMB, so we know we start with the default viewer settings. Choose "Viewer Settings" in the Window menu to bring up the "Viewer Settings" view. There, change view type to "Panorama" and click the Mars icon with a plus on it to create a new window. If it has a message saying no images match the criteria, you probably need to do an image update so you have some images to view.
