I finally figured out the little voice in my head. Damien and James' panoramas are truly stunning and Damien's desktop version of Mt. Sharp went straight to wallpaper without hesitation. First glance at the screen this morning and the little voice finally spoke up loud and clear: "Hey, where's Curi in this picture?" Of course we'll never have a picture of her on the surface from a few feet away, but a quick trip to Photoshop with a JPL stock photo and Damien's desktop version did the trick. Here's a 1920x1200px JPG. Though a totally artificial scene... I just wanted to see what she might look like in her in her entirety from a few dozen yards away, patiently waiting for commands, and utterly alone in the stark vastness of the Gale wilderness ...

Of course we'll never have a picture of her on the surface from a few feet away... Actually, MAHLI can take this sort of mosaic with the appropriate arm movements. -------------------- Disclaimer: This post is based on public information only. Any opinions are my own.

Actually, MAHLI can take this sort of mosaic with the appropriate arm movements. Excellent point... I stand corrected! With the full reach of the arm, a beautiful self portrait from a variety of angles up to 7 feet away is no problemo. Will certainly look forward to that. -------------------- "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." -T.S. Because the full resolution version of the mastcam pan brings computers (let alone my iPad that I would like to use to browse it on my sofa) to their knees, I have splashed out on the HTML5 version of Zoomify to be able to view the full resolution version without having to download and try and open a massive jpeg.

I was on a business trip... and back home.
Sorry to be late, but here is my version (reduced 40% to fill in the Forum) of the Navcams pics taken shortly after landing (i.e. a compilation of Sols 2, 12, 14 and 15 Navcam images), before Curiosity started moving. I dubbed it the "JPL Engineers' Success Pan". It's a pan dedicated to the JPL engineers who made this incredible EDL event occur so flawlessly (with a special tribute to MarsEngineer and his wonderful team). Of course I'm not forgetting also Phil and Tim53 (our UMSF cartographers who helped us pinpoint our locations so easily during all those years) and Emily (our "Bloguette par Excellence" at the UMSF forum and at TPS)... as well as some French friends in the forum (Ant103, Climber...). In fact, this panorama could have been released by JPL, very much like the ones released previously for the MPF, MER and Phoenix missions... Enjoy ! |

Also nice view of two silicon chips (above round calibration targets) with SYNTM names, signatures, essays, drawings and Leonardo's portrait.

I don't remember an anagylph of the rover with the +6 and +12 day HiRISE images:
http://www.uahirise.org/ESP_028335_1755 http://www.uahirise.org/ESP_028401_1755 So, hopefully no duplication: and a 0.25x version: I'd post side by side pairs for cross-eyed viewing (my preference, especially with color), but anaglyphs seem to be de rigueur here. Mark |

*clink* *clink* that's two Sacajawea dollars in the swear jar for me. you can actually see Curiosity popping off the surface.
Markril, I do think that the people who frequent this site are far more likely than normal to have red-blue glasses sitting handily by their computer, so you're probably right that red-blue anaglyphs are the best choice for this site. However, if you prepare the anaglyphs in color, I would prefer stereo pairs. I'm not sure if I speak for everyone else here though. That might actually be a reason to do a poll on this site, though not on this particular thread. Therefore, I've set up a poll in the chit-chat section to solicit people's opinions on how they'd like to see 3D image content delivered. -------------------- My website - My Patreon - @elakdawalla on Twitter - Please support unmannedspaceflight.com by donating here.

I don't remember an anagylph of the rover with the +6 and +12 day HiRISE images: Are they good? Well I stole them (I mean copied) and placed then in my "MSL's Journey" main directory. They blew away anything I already had there. Now I have detailed 3d graphical evidece of were MSL's journey actually started. All the way to glenelg! Jack |

Hi there. I made this reprojection of Damien's panorama into the stereographic projection. I think the stereographic projection is very nice for omnidirectional images, specially as a replacement for the more usual radial projections such as the polar azimuthal equidistant, and I am trying to "raise awareness" about it.
In the case of this picture, it is cute because it looks like Curiosity has just landed on a little planet that has nothing but a huge mountain ahead. Here you go: |

Which images did you use as source images? I followed the links but there are many different types of images and I'm not sure which ones to use to make my own. |
