Good afternoon, I’m Byron Jones and this is the Flight Director report for the Mars Exploration Rovers. It’s Thursday March 3rd.

On Spirit today, they had a short drive on their way up the Columbia Hills to stop at a new science target where they’ll be staying throughout the weekend to do some remote sensing. And also tomorrow, they’ll be booting to their new flight software patch, R-9.1. This will help them in their drive up the slippery terrain on the Columbia Hill.

On the other side of Mars, Opportunity is continuing the trek south towards ‘Vostok’. They’ll be driving there throughout the weekend and hope to be there by early next week. Recently, we had a first-time event for Opportunity, they drove 177 meters in one day, which is beating the previous record of 155 meters.

And that’s what’s happening on Mars today.
