I don't know how you got hold of that private picture of me, or why you photoshopped someone else's head on it, but this is the original, for the record:
And here's my belated update to sol 1686: Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

This is why I was slowed down - I was making a close-up map base for this. I'll get the scale on it later and try to get exact locations for the targets.

Another 10 m or so south on sol 1689. If I got the target locations right this should be Amphitheater Valley in front of us.

Update to sol 1691. Still not sure about the locations of some target names. Sometimes I am unsure until the planning documents show up in the Analysts Notebook.

I am continually amazed at rover teams' ability to generate a seemingly endless pool of names for enroute features.

Sometimes I am unsure until the planning documents show up in the Analysts Notebook.... Pity they can't do like what we sometimes see for Oppy where they tag the new images with target names (midnight planets shows these on mouseover) Maybe on 2020? I can sometimes work it out from the plan, but in days of multiple targets it's near impossible |

The MER imagery doesn't have any sort of target tag in its filename. It does, however, have a Sequence ID ( just like MSL )
What Mike's doing with Midnight Planets is cross referencing those Seq IDs for MER with the Pancam database that has target names often in the sequence description. No such database currently exists for MSL. |

I am continually amazed at rover teams' ability to generate a seemingly endless pool of names for enroute features. The endless pool of names was generated already, before they enter each new quad -- they just pull from the list every day. In their internal daily reports, they'll have a slide that crosses off names that have gotten used in today's plan. -------------------- My website - My Patreon - @elakdawalla on Twitter - Please support unmannedspaceflight.com by donating here.

Sol 1693 - a drive back onto the big slab of rock to the east of the last position. The path is a guess but must be something like that to match the visible tracks and the large obstacles.

Well, I know where we are, but I'm not sure how we got there - certainly not the nice straight line I just put on the map, but I'll fix it later.

We are probably about here, but I don't have a great match yet.
Phil PS - I will be travelling for about 10 days and map updates will be limited or impossible. I will catch up later in May. -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.
