ISS will acquire a global mapping mosaic of Titan. A four-frame mosaic will be centered just south of eastern Aztlan near the Nath crater. Interesting constructs that may be imaged include Shiwanni Virgae and Sotra Facula, the latter a possible volcano. The details of this rev and flyby are found here http://www.ciclops.org/view/7871/Rev204

Thanks for the links John VV.
The T101 mission overview is now up on the Cassini Solstice Mission home page. http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/flybys/titan20140517/ Looking forward to the Radio Science experimental results concerning the nature of the Titanian surface. The ISS inbound images should include a NAC image of the Sotra Patera (new designation as of Dec 2012) http://planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov/Feature/..._fsk=-728381426 the best example of cryovulcanism on icy satellites. There have been papers suggesting Sotra Patera has been brightening http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU...EGU2014-588.pdf http://www.europlanet-eu.org/epsc2013/76-e...o-cryovolcanism however the most recent consensus is that the cryovolcano is not active. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sotra_Patera Perhaps brightening since 2010 can be explained by the effects of the “arrow storm” equatorial storm clouds that enveloped the area in September and October of 2010. |
